Environmental group, This Is Rigged, are claiming responsibility
Protesters have blocked cyclists as they raced against the clock during the UCI Cycling World Championships.
Disruptive protests have caused chaos in the Carron Valley area as cyclist compete in the elite men's road race from Edinburgh to Glasgow. The race has been temporarily paused with just 80km remaining, as protesters gather on single-track road, the B818. Live footage from the BBC shows cyclists heavily breaking as police vehicles and UCI staff navigate their way towards the disruption. Officers are aware of the situation and are engaging with protesters, a spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "We’re aware of a protest in the Carron Valley area. Officers are currently in attendance and engaging with protesters."Environmental group This Is Rigged are claiming responsibility with four of its activists being involved.
A spokesperson for the UCI Cycling World Championships said: "Further to Police Scotland’s confirmation of a protest in the Carron Valley area, which has temporarily interrupted the Men’s Road Race, we are working closely with all relevant authorities to minimise disruption to the race and also to ensure the safety of riders as our paramount concern."Live footage from BBC Scotland read: "Men's road race temporarily interrupted by protesters".
