Sir Peter Lampl, founder of the Sutton Trust, criticizes Keir Starmer for claiming to have attended a state school. Lampl argues that Reigate Grammar, attended by both Starmer and the Prime Minister, was a private school during Starmer's time there. He also condemns the government's plan to charge VAT on private school fees, claiming it will harm social mobility.
Sir Keir Starmer has been accused of 'fudging the facts' about attending a state school, the founder of a social mobility charity has claimed.
Sir Keir received a bursary from the council to continue his studies until sixth form, as did other pupils who began attending the school before it was converted. 'I am helping young people to benefit from an education that made all the difference to me, Starmer is destroying the opportunities to have the same chances he had.'
