After Thomas Tyler graduated from UC Santa Barbara, his father, Charles, offered him a job coaching track and field at Steele Canyon High School.
As Charles Tyler developed the Steele Canyon girls program into the best in the San Diego Section section the last two years, Thomas and Antoine Woods steadily built the Matadors’ boys program. “At first, we didn’t count on Brandon because we weren’t sure if he’d be eligible as a transfer. We didn’t have him for almost half the season, but he did everything with the team. Just before the Divisional championships, I told Antoine I thought because of Brandon, we were the team to beat in Division 2.”
The next week, Steele Canyon’s girls again dominated the section’s state-qualifying meet. Mount Miguel’s boys placed third overall, behind Helix and Mission Bay.
