One affordable tool could help you save a fortune by allowing you to properly service your radiator
One small gadget could help you save hundreds of pounds a year while helping you keep your house warm more efficiently. According to latest data from the Government, more than 70 per cent of households in the UK use a radiator as their main source of heating. However, without sufficient maintenance, these radiators are prone to a number of issues.
However, you will likely be unable to properly bleed your radiator without a radiator key. Fortunately, you can grab these keys for as cheap as £1 on sites such as Amazon and eBay, a very small investment for a little tool that some experts suggest could save you over £100 a year, depending on how long it's been since your radiator was last furnished.
Citizens Advice also recommends that individuals with health conditions, which could worsen in colder climates, should not set their thermostat below 21C. Draining a radiator can be a messy task, so ensure you place towels and any containers that can catch water underneath the pipes on either side of your radiator. You'll need to close off the thermostatic radiator valve and the lockshield valve on either side of your radiator by turning them clockwise - in some cases you may need a spanner for this step.
