William Reilly downed several drinks before driving dangerously and ramming into the terrified motorist and spinning off the road and into a wall. Reilly dodged a jail term as a sheriff ordered him to carry out 180 hours unpaid work in the community and be under supervision for 18 months.
He was also banned from driving for 18 months as Sheriff Alistair Carmichael told him the sentence was being imposed as a direct alternative to custody. The sheriff said: "This driving was appalling. Your driving is the kind oof nightmare every other motorist fears." Solicitor Kevin Hampton, defending, told Dundee Sheriff Court: "The report makes reference to him taking alcohol to cope with stress at the time. Clearly that has affected his judgment."
