has insisted owner and chairman Todd Boehly will “stand up and fight” at Chelsea despite his failures since buying the club in 2022., the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the American and his partners “can’t take the hit” of selling – both “professionally and financially”.
Chelsea have posted back-to-back losses totalling around £211million in the last two years and are now in danger of breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Regulations for the 2023-24 campaign.On the pitch, Chelsea have also gone downhill since Boehly’s takeover – and sit 11th in the table this term after finishing 12th in the 2022-23 campaign.
“The partners he has got will want to stay and salvage what they can because they can’t take that hit professionally and financially.“It’s a London club. They’ve got to try and get it back on track, take their medicine and realise the error of their ways.”
