The Fizz's Cheryl Baker reveals she was put on diet pills and told to lose weight at height of band's fame
It’s been almost 40 years since Bucks Fizz performed their Making Your Mind Up routine on the Eurovision stage, ripping off skirts and soaring their way to first place.
But opening up to OK! on our exclusive shoot, it’s clear that the hard times have only brought the band closer together. Mike: I was full of life. Despite how tiring being in the band back then was, the 80s was a fantastic time to be in music. Mike: We performed at a show abroad and had to fly back with Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet. It was one wild party on the plane.
Cheryl: Yeah, back in the 80s we were puppets. People don’t realise the realities of being in a band when you’re young. It can be so strict, so many early starts and a gruelling schedule. It’s not glamorous. Cheryl: I was. I was put on diets and told to lose weight. I was taken to Harley Street and given diet pills, which made me very depressed and angry. I was 8st 4lb at my smallest. I was never going to be tiny, though.
