The Chicago Cubs will be without a veteran arm for at least the next 15 days after Saturday’s transactions.
This will be Wesneski’s first trip to the injured list this season. The Cubs recalled him from Triple-A Iowa on April 23. He is listed as having a strained right forearm.
He is in his third Major League season. In 2022 he was a spot start, as he started in 11 of his 34 games and went 3-5 with a 4.63 ERA. He struck out 83 and walked 32 in 89.1 innings. Bigge, a 26-year-old right-hander, is a Harvard product who the Cubs took in the 12th round of the 2019 MLB Draft. He was sent to Triple-A Iowa on Sunday. Normally he would have to wait 15 days before he was called back up. But, because he’s an injury replacement he can re-join the Cubs.
