Chicago police officer shot on city's West Side
CHICAGO -- A Chicago Police officer was shot in the wrist during a traffic stop Thursday evening on the city's West Side.Police Supt. Larry Snelling said around 6 p.m., officers pulled over a vehicle in the 3800 block of West Ferdinand Street, off Avers Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.One man was in the car, and there was an exchange of gunfire between him and the officers, Snelling said.
The shooter was shot by the officers, Snelling said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.The shooter was in his 20s, Snelling said.The four other officers involved were also taken to the hospital for observation, Snelling said.The officers involved range in time on the job from two to five years. The officer who was shot is a five-year veteran, Snelling said.At the scene of the shooting, dozens of officers were seen combing the area for evidence.
