Manchester United academy striker Chido Obi-Martin was spotted wearing his old England under-16 kit during a training session, despite currently representing Denmark at the youth level.
Manchester United academy striker Chido Obi-Martin wore one of his old England under-16s kits while training during the Christmas break despite now representing Denmark . Obi-Martin, 17, made two appearances for the Young Lions in March last year during a UEFA development tournament in Cyprus. As a 16-year-old, he featured as a second-half substitute in matches against the hosts and Scotland, both of which England won 3-0.
The striker wore the number 23 shirt when coming off the bench and wore an England shirt with that number and no name on the back during a session on Christmas Eve morning. Afterwards, he posed for a photo with coaches Garry Richards, Kudus Oyenuga, and West Ham United under-18s player Chukwumeka Obi. Oyenuga and Richards posted the photo on Instagram alongside footage of the players doing a top-up conditioning session before working on some finishing. On his story, Obi-Martin shared clips from the shooting practice, during which he wore the 2022/23 home England shirt. Instagram The player's choice of attire is notable because Obi-Martin has played for Denmark since April 2023, appearing 26 times for their under-16s, under-17s and under-18s. He has 29 caps overall for Denmark across those age groups after playing on three occasions for their under-16s in October 2022 before representing England. Obi-Martin could have played three times for the Young Lions at that youth tournament in Cyprus. The team also had a third game that the striker did not feature in, which was against Denmark. Born in the Copenhagen suburb of Glostrup, Obi-Marin has a Danish mother and a Nigerian father, which means he is also eligible to represent Nigeria internationally. The teenager does not have to decide until he plays competitive matches for a senior national team. However, he said during an interview with the online Danish newspaper Bold in March that he hopes to play for his birth country
