Millions of families receiving Child Benefit will see an increase in their payments from April 2025. The increase, in line with inflation, will see the weekly payment for the first child rise to £26.05 and £17.25 for each additional child.
Millions of families receiving Child Benefit will see an increase in their payments, with the new amounts coming into effect in April 2025. HMRC has confirmed the rise, which will be paid to parents of children aged 16 and under (or 20 in some cases). The new tax year begins on April 6, 2025, but the first payments will be made on Monday, April 7th. Families may not see the full impact of the increase until May as Child Benefit is usually paid every four weeks.
The increase comes in line with the inflation rate for September 2024, which was 1.7%. Child Benefit payments will rise by this amount, along with most other benefit payments. The only exception is the State Pension, which increases at a different rate due to the triple-lock guarantee. The new Child Benefit rates will be £26.05 per week for the first child and £17.25 per week for any additional children. There is no limit to the number of children families can claim for.
