Parents who don't update their child's education details could miss out on their regular Child Benefit payments
Parents whose children are in the last year of school have been warned they could lose their Child Benefit if they don’t take action. HMRC is sending 1.4 million letters to parents between 24 May and 17 July, asking them if they still want to claim Child Benefit after their child turns 16.
If your child continues in certain education or training after the age of 16, you can still receive Child Benefit until they reach 20, or until their education or training ends. ‘Parents have until August 31 to take action or their payments will automatically stop. Letting HMRC know digitally that a child is continuing in education is the quickest way to get it sorted, with no need to contact us by phone or post.’
