Southport killer Axel Rudakubana was among the notorious criminals sent to jail in the UK in the first month of 2025.
A man who was cleared of manslaughter after subjecting his vulnerable partner, who took her own life, to assault and years of domestic abuse will also spend time behind bars after facing the courts. The 39-year-old swung at Kelvin Evans outside The Station Hotel in Swansea on May 26 last year after feeling “slighted” over his partner’s karaoke singing. Mr Evans was immediately knocked unconscious and was taken to hospital, where he died a month later.
The court heard that Mr Evans, 64, had been drinking at the Station Hotel, known locally as “The Gyp” in May last year. Cooper followed Mr Evans as he left to meet his partner at another pub and punched him once in the head from behind. Andrew McIntyre A taxi-driver whose posts on social media were a "catalyst" for violent disorder was jailed for seven and a half years.
In a later post he wrote: “Rise Up English Lads. 8pm tomorrow St Luke’s Rd Southport.” Hours before violence broke out in Southport on July 30, he posted a “clear threat to police”, writing: “Message to All … Stand in our way, even if you’re just doing your job … prepare to fall.” Another user responded: “We’ll get to the mosque and rip it f****** down.”
De Sousa Abreu, of Fulham, was arrested and pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office at Isleworth Crown Court in July last year. In January, she appeared at the same court wearing a grey suit and white shirt, and was sentenced to 15 months in prison. Judge Edmunds said: "From what I know about you, you were certainly not naive about the media or social media. It must have been obvious that the recording would be shown around and shared, at least amongst prisoners at Wandsworth where it would do the most harm. Whether you intended it or not, the fact is that the video went viral, and caused great harm."
Cleveland Police said Dismore was jailed at Teesside Crown Court for 43 years for attempted murder and more than 20 other offences against young girls. “Dismore’s offending escalated when he attacked one 15-year-old girl in the street with a knife in a terrifying assault as she went home from school, leaving her with serious injuries. Had she not been saved by a courageous passer-by, she could have lost her life. This incident led to the discovery of other girls who had been preyed on by Dismore and stalked and harassed via social media.”
The crime spree also included the burglary of a house on Oakley Road, Harwich, during which entry was forced through the back door and thousands of pounds in cash and tools were taken, along with a Ford Ranger and a Land Rover on April 1. Jewellery worth more than £20,000 was taken from a house in Nancy Blackett Avenue, Walton, after entry was forced through the back door in a separate burglary on April 23.
Martin and Shaun Breeze A man who drove into a group of people to avenge his son while he was high on drink and drugs has been jailed for a minimum of 32 years for murdering a much-loved grandfather. Martin Breeze, 57, swerved off the road and smashed into a group who had been in a disagreement with his son Shaun, 30, who had gone out to buy drugs.
On the way home, Shaun Breeze pointed out the group with whom he had disagreed and his father pulled off the road and deliberately ploughed into them. Rapper Kammar Henry-Richards, known as Kay-O, was involved in the murder of Kacey Boothe on August 13 in 2022 then boasted on video that the same gun was used to injure the victim’s brother two years earlier.
Henry-Richards, 26, was jailed for life at the Old Bailey with a minimum term of 37 years for the murder. Ka’mani Brightly-Donaldson was jailed for life with a minimum term of 38 years; Gyimah was handed a minimum term of 35 years; and Pateco-Te was told he would spend at least 37 years behind bars. E9 gang associate Roody Thomas, 27, of Birmingham, who admitted having a prohibited firearm was jailed for five years.
Badea pleaded guilty to possession of cocaine with intent to supply, possession of cannabis and driving without insurance, police added. He was sentenced to two years and four months in prison at Maidstone Crown Court. Siddiqui had pleaded guilty to 25 offences, including 11 counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, six counts of child cruelty, and eight counts of administering a prescription-only medicine to young and vulnerable patients while ignoring basic hygiene rules and performing non-therapeutic male circumcisions.
Judge Altham told the defendant he made his victim feel worthless, blame herself for being assaulted, and that she was an “unfit mother”. He said: "From May 2020 until her death, you abused, exploited and assaulted her.” Finnigan chatted to an individual believed to be a young girl who told him she was considering suicide. The court heard he encouraged her to hang herself using a rope and wanted her to stream it online so he could claim it for 764.
Anthony Gardiner Anthony Gardiner was ordered to serve a minimum of 20 years in prison for murdering a convicted sex offender. The court heard Gardiner made admissions to prison officers, carved: “I am a nonce killer” into his dinner place, and was noted to keep a newspaper article about Coxon’s death in his cell.
The 32-year-old tried to tweet the manifesto document before his arrest, claiming he “just did my duty to England” by trying to “exterminate” his victim and tagging Tommy Robinson as well as prominent politicians including Sir Keir Starmer, Rishi Sunak, Nigel Farage and Suella Braverman, but the message failed to send because he had copied in too many recipients.
Tanaka Zivanai A jealous boyfriend brutally murdered his partner after wrongly believing she was having an affair. Tanaka Zivanai, 32, repeatedly stabbed Zanele Sibanda, 28, after confronting her in a Gloucester street. A short time later neighbours heard a woman screaming and saw a man kneeling on the floor with a woman in his lap, with him saying: “Wake up, get up, get up.” Police officers and paramedics attempted to save Ms Sibanda’s life but she was declared dead at the scene and a post-mortem examination found she had died from multiple stab wounds to the head, throat, body and arms.
Alice da Silva Aguiar, nine, Bebe King, six, and Elsie Dot Stancombe, seven, died in the attack in The Hart Space on a small business park in the seaside town shortly before midday on July 29 last year. Rudakubana also attempted to murder eight other children, who cannot be named for legal reasons, class instructor Leanne Lucas and businessman John Hayes.
Deveca Rose A woman whose four young boys died in a fire after she left them alone at home while she went to Sainsbury’s was handed a 10-year jail term. Deveca Rose had left her two sets of twins, aged three and four, in the locked terraced house when the blaze broke out on the evening of December 16 in 2021.
William Bush, 23, was killed by his childhood friend Thomas, who is the grandson of pie company tycoon Sir Stanley Thomas, at their home in Llandaff, Cardiff, on December 24, 2023. During the trial, the jury heard from Dr Panchu Xavier, a consultant forensic psychiatrist at Ashworth, who said the defendant could have been having a psychotic episode during the attack and for “up to six months before the event”.
It is believed that the baby had sustained injuries at the hands of Kember by that point, and he committed a further assault after leaving the restaurant at about 11.17pm on January 13. Kember called 111 reporting that the infant was unresponsive at about 1.20am on January 14. Paramedics noted the baby had facial bruising and raised concerns with staff at Musgrove Park Hospital, who alerted Avon and Somerset Police.
The two women and five men were all convicted of gang raping a child and abusing other children in a drugs den in Glasgow where heroin and crack cocaine were used. They were given sentences of between 20 years and eight years in jail before they can apply for parole. The judge described the abuse as “life endangering and, in some cases, murderous assaults” and said the sentence was “to deter others and expressing the abhorrence of the community of such atrocious abuse of vulnerable children”.
Rahamim Shy A former US government adviser flew to the UK to rape who he believed to be a nine-year-old child. Shy, an international investment banker, flew from the US to Gatwick Airport on February 23 last year before driving to Bedford where he met the undercover officer and was arrested. Upon arrest, officers found cuddly toys and condoms in his luggage which the prosecution argued demonstrated a clear intent to win the child over before abusing her.
Birmingham Crown Court heard the mourners had gathered in February 2023 to pay their respects to 17-year-old Akeem Bailey, who was stabbed to death in October 2022 during a dispute over a mobile phone. Anarlyn Jones An “extremely dangerous individual” will spend at least 22 years behind bars for the “brutal and savage” murder of his mother. Anarlyn Jones, 27, of Bordon, Hampshire, was sentenced for the murder of Anna Jones, 44, whose body was found by police after they were called to her home in Petersfield, Hampshire, on May 9, 2023.
