Michelle Erwin, 36, was raped by paedophile Billy Adams as a child

A child rape survivor has welcomed assurances from Justice Minister Naomi Long that a "loophole" allowing sex offenders to change their name by deed poll will be closed.

The 36-year-old Michelle, who waived her right to anonymity several years ago, met with the Stormont Minister on Wednesday to appeal for a Northern Ireland version of 'Della's Law' to be introduced.UK Home Secretary Suella Braverman confirmed in October last year that sex offenders will be banned from changing their names by deed poll. The legislation, known as Della's Law after child rape survivor Della Wright, is currently making its way through Parliament in England.

"When checks are done under the new identity, their convictions might not be flagged up and they could potentially go on to work in schools or youth clubs, etc which then allows them to reoffend."Adams was sentenced to 12 years in the Republic, but managed to secure a transfer to Maghaberry Prison.
