Headteachers are taking extra precautions amid tension in the Middle East

Children at Jewish schools are being told to cover their blazers outside the gates over anti-Semitism fears following the attack on Israel. Headteachers across Greater Manchester have stepped up security in the wake of events in the Middle East.

The Community Security Trust , writing to parents, said bosses were working closely with heads and governors, reassuring that security is a 'long term commitment'. "The need is most obvious at a time like this," the letter adds. John Dalziel, headteacher at King David high school in Crumpsall, said teachers and children have discussed the attacks in assembly and pupils have been advised on being safe on social media.

"The other thing about being at school is that it's normality - away from the news and social media. In school, it actually feels quite nice. We've got a nice supportive atmosphere. Elsewhere, students have been told they can take off their blazers on public transport at the Jewish Free School in north London; while a secondary in nearby Barnet, has started extra checks on people entering the site.
