Leo Payne was handed an extended sentence after a shocking series of attacks
Chilling CCTV shows an attempted rapist prowling the streets of a city centre looking for women to attack.
Carina Hughes, prosecuting, said all Payne's offending took place in June this year in Swansea city centre and involved the defendant 'roaming the streets in search of lone females' to attack. She said the defendant's motivation was sexual. This attack came to an end when the woman's cries for help were heard by two passing men and Payne fled the scene. Both of these incidents were reported to the police.
Meanwhile, Payne continued to offend. The next incident took place near Mariner Street and Swansea railway station when a passer-by called Filip Nowak heard a female voice from an alleyway saying 'Please no. Stop.' and moments later saw Payne emerging from the alley. Miss Hughes said that police were now dealing with a series of reports of incidents in the city centre that morning and that their investigation led to Payne being identified and then traced to a property on Carlton Terrace in the Mount Pleasant area of Swansea. The defendant initially gave officers the false name of Jack Smith before revealing his true identity, and in his subsequent interview answered 'no comment' to all questions.
