China has cited comments from Energy Minister Chris Bowen in an application to remove anti-dumping tariffs on the import of wind turbines.

At present, Chinese companies face a tariff of up to 10.9 per cent for shipping towers into Australia, which Beijing argues is unreasonable because they only make up 2.6 per cent of exports and are not being"dumped."

China's government also argues addressing climate change is a"common responsibility" with both countries needing to work together to tackle the issue. In a submission to the Anti-Dumping Commission, the Chinese government pointed to Mr Bowen's acknowledgement that Australia would need to increase wind power installations to about 27 gigawatts by 2030 to meet net zero targets. However, Chinese state news agency Xinhua reported last week that the country's Ministry of Commerce wanted a"packaged" solution when it came to wine, linking its tariffs to Australian restrictions on wind turbines, railway wheels and stainless-steel sinks.
