Chinese researchers developed a robot perception system which acheives 98.85% accuracy in recognizing complex objects.
The system, using tactile sensors and a unique cascade classifier, shows improved perception, achieving 98.85% accuracy in identifying various rubbish objects. Tsinghua University researchers use special touch sensors that can detect where and when something is touched, how hot or cold it is, how rough its surface is, how hard it’s being squeezed, and its temperature.
The robotic grasping system, with the help of tactile sensors and the distinctive cascade classifier, demonstrates enhanced perception capabilities. It achieved a recognition accuracy of 98.85 percent in identifying variousModern intelligent robots are capable of precise touch and vision recognition of a wide range of objects. Robots can recognize objects they have touched in the past by using machine learning algorithms and tactile data collected by sensors.
Aiming to imitate touch sensing in the human body, researchers created a robotic tactile sensing technique that included thermal sensations for more reliable and accurate item recognition. The algorithm “rules out object types in order, from easy to hard, starting with simple categories like empty cartons before moving on to orange peels or scraps of cloth,” said researchers in a statement. The robot collected various typical rubbish items, such as empty cartons, leftover bread, plastic bags, bottles, napkins, sponges, orange peels, and outdated medications. It divided the garbage into several bins for hazardous waste, food scraps, recyclables, and other waste types.
