CHINA has opened a purpose-built base in a barren desert to recreate the arid Martian environment - and the “Mars” base is about to open up to tourists.

And now Beijing appears to also be readying a manned mission to Mars, after opening a base in one of the driest areas on Earth, to mimic the inhospitable Martian environment.China's space agency CNSA intends to open the Mars base to research organisations and even tourists to recreate the challenges astronauts will encounter on Mars.
