"With global trade tensions likely to increase under Trump's presidency, a bring-forward of Chinese steel exports before Trump takes office on 20 January 2025 is on the cards," Commonwealth Bank of Australia director for mining and energy commodities Vivek Dhar said.
An uptick in iron ore demand would follow China's imports having already risen by 29% year on year in October, up from 13% year on year in September, the CBA director noted. "The solid annual increase in China's iron ore imports help explain why China's iron ore port stockpiles have started ticking higher again since October 11," he said.
