Miraculously two chimps have been found alive in the zoo fire in Germany

The monkey house was completely burned out in the fire in the early hours of New Year’s Day

Only two chimpanzees could be saved from the deadly fire that claimed the lives of apes, monkeys, bats and birds in western Germany.and witnesses said they saw the paper lanterns flying nearby, despite the lights being outlawed. They found partly burned lanterns near the scene – some of which had handwritten notes on them, giving detectives a clue as to where they came from.

Mr Hoppmann said the use of sky lanterns is illegal in Krefeld and most other parts of Germany and asked that the people who launched them or people who witnessed anything should come forward to police.
