Manchester City forward Chloe Kelly has rejected a move to Brighton and Seagulls, opting to remain in Manchester despite interest from rivals Manchester United. Kelly has expressed her disappointment at being unable to depart City this month, taking to social media on Wednesday with a strongly worded statement about her future.
Sky Sports News understands that City have only received a single acceptable bid for Kelly thus far, which she is currently considering before the transfer window closes. Sources have indicated that Brighton submitted a loan offer, although Kelly is reportedly aware that City would demand a higher valuation from a bid by United. Kelly shared her dissatisfaction on Instagram, stating that she was 'disappointed' that 'who she can and cannot join' was 'being dictated' to her. This follows a breakdown in relations between the club and her management, with no resolution in sight despite meetings. There are reports that the club informed her she could not be replaced this month, but they subsequently signed Rebecca Knaak from RC Rosengard. Kelly feels the club is holding onto her out of pride. Kelly's contract with City expires in four months. England manager Sarina Wiegman is believed to be eager for Kelly to secure regular playing time ahead of the Euros this summer. Kelly maintains her belief that she is a 'top-three' player. In her Wednesday statement, Kelly elaborated: 'For a long time, I've tried to work through professional challenges privately, not commenting publicly, but with my situation increasingly being debated in the public domain, I feel it's time to be open and transparent, and you heard it from my perspective. 'A key lesson I have learned in my life is that, while I can't control someone's negative behaviour towards me, I can control how long I am prepared to tolerate it. From day one, I've felt so much love from my team-mates and the fans. 'With my contract expiring in June, I've accepted my future is not at this club beyond then. With the Euros fast approaching, this summer is a huge one and I want to be in a position to give it my best shot to represent my country.
