Chris McCausland, the first-ever blind contestant on Strictly Come Dancing, shares his journey and emotions following his unexpected victory. He discusses the challenges, the triumphs, and the overwhelming support he received.

Chris McCausland said he 'never expected to win' Strictly Come Dancing after making history as the first-ever blind contestant. The stand-up comedian appeared on ITV's This Morning today to chat to Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley about his Strictly journey. He described the outcome as 'bonkers' and joked that he now opens his door holding the glitterball trophy. Chris was partnered with professional dancer, Dianne Buswell.

When talking about being crowned Strictly 2024 champions, he said: 'The two of us were just holding onto each other just crying. Thankfully, the other guys all came in and gave us a big celebratory group hug.' The daytime hosts reminisced on a short clip from last summer, when Chris spoke to the same hosts on This Morning about the possibility of him doing Strictly . At the time, Chris said: 'I don't know if I'm logistically capable of doing it. It's live TV, can I be taught to do something I can't even see what it is they're trying to teach me?' Fast-forward to him being crowned Strictly champion, Chris said he was 'massively proud' of what he and Dianne were able to achieve, adding: 'My concern was that it could of been a disaster.' Speaking about his emotional performance in week five to Liverpool FC anthem You'll Never Walk Alone, Chris said: 'We already felt that we'd challenged preconceptions and smashed a few expectations, and that for me felt like a success at that point, and to go onto where we got to is just bananas.' The comedian joked about his strong emotions towards the show and how much he cried during the final, comparing it to his passion for Liverpool FC. Chris said that his daughter, Sophie, said to him: 'Daddy, I've never seen you cry before!', and Chris said: 'Well, you didn't see me when Liverpool beat Barcelona 4-0.' Despite his surprising success, Chris didn't find the show easy. He said: 'The fear I had in that first show, I'd never experienced anything like it, because I didn't know if it was possible
