NRL teams Manly Sea Eagles, Cronulla Sharks and West Tigers are seeking “assurances” from the New South Wales government their home grounds will receive funding for upgrades.
The previous government pledged funding to these teams but pulled the plug last August – now the NRL is urging NSW Premier Chris Minns to assure this funding will be delivered.
The Coalition pledged $300 million to the Penrith Panthers and Mr Minns matched this but won’t commit to funding other teams, instead he says he will focus funding on schools and hospitals. “When you consider there is $200 billion of debt in New South Wales and we’ve got urgent responsibilities for schools and hospitals, they’ve got to be our priority – that’s why we were elected on Saturday,” said Mr Minns.
“My message to the people of New South Wales is that’s got to be the priority of the incoming government.”
