For the time of year, the big day looks set to be mild, with morning temperatures of around 8C.
Experts say a more organised band of rain will arrive from the west later, perhaps becoming wintry in the very far north. However, Greater Manchester looks largely dry into the evening, with showers starting at around 11pm and continuing into Boxing Day morning.
