The SNP has argued this huge increase in the cost of electricity highlights the necessity for Scotland to have control over its own electricity resources. “Scotland generates 15.5% of the UK’s electricity, despite having only 8.2% of the UK’s population - and yet, because of Westminster’s continual mismanagement of Scotland’s resources, Scots continue to pay some of the highest energy bills in Europe.
“The only way to ensure that Scots get a fair deal on electricity, that reflects our country’s massive electricity surplus, is with independence.”
