He said waiting lists to see a pain consultant can stretch to a year and a half due to “underfunding” and a hangover from the pandemic which saw pain specialists moved away from their discipline over to Covid-19 wards.has caused “quite a significant backlog and a waiting list for patients to see us”.

She said the “worst” waiting lists are for those suffering from “chronic disabling pain often with no clear diagnosis or cause”. Pelvic pain sufferer Ms Tazi described what it was like to be on the waiting list for a pain management clinic for two and a half years. When she eventually saw the clinician, she said was discharged without medication and advised to visit a psychotherapist.
