Johann Chua flashed his fiery form and extended his winning ways to march on to the Last 16 of the 2024 European Open 9-Ball Championship at the Hotel Esperanto in Fulda, Germany Friday, Aug. 9.
The 32-year-old Chua upset Albanian Kledio Kaci, 10-9, in their Round-of-64 clash then smashed Chinese Taipei’s Ko Ping Han, 10-3, in Last 32 to move four victories away from ruling the prestigious 9-ball competition that offers $30,000 to the winner.
The SEAG multi-medalist already collected scalps in the preliminaries, including Belgian Kevin Lannoye , Taiwanese Liu Chien Hung , and Italian Francesco Candela . Chua, the 2023 World Cup of Pool winner, braces for a tougher task ahead in the Last 16 as he challenges Poland’s Wojciech Szewczyk. Szewczyk came from two commanding wins, dominating Finns Jani Uski and Norwegian Emil Andre Gangflot in the second round.
Other Filipino bets in James Aranas, Michael Feliciano and Anton Raga, who was the previous edition’s runner-up, were eliminated in the 256-player competition.
