A Conservative club in Manchester has been ordered to increase security measures following a violent brawl that left four men hospitalized. Councillors demanded stricter CCTV and a security guard for events with more than 60 people after hearing about the incident.

A Conservative club has been ordered to tighten security after councillors heard a violent brawl broke out. Police were called to Winston Conservative Club in Baguley on November 4 following reports of four men fighting and 'stamping on people's heads', PC Alan Isherwood wrote in a report to the town hall.

Bosses at the Hall Lane venue have been ordered introduce more extensive CCTV and hire a security guard at events of more than 60 people after councillors were told people were left in hospital. GMP said a fight broke out while the club was hosting a birthday party and a funeral. People were thrown out, the panel was told, after 'extensive damage' was done to the club's toilets. An altercation then broke out outside the club, PC Isherwood's report read. The owner's daughter was punched. Bystanders tried to intervene, leading to a 'larger scale fight'. Four men were hospitalised, with injuries including a broken ankle, a fractured cheek and a bleed to the brain, councillors were told. Club bosses were called to a summary review at Manchester council to discuss changes to licensing conditions. PC Isherwood asked for the club to have a trained security guard present at events with more than 40 people and for better CCTV. 'Surely having someone employed who's trained to deal with conflict resolution and defence tactics would be better if this horrible situation arose again, instead of your daughter or any other member of staff having to place themselves in danger?,' he said. Colette Renton, a spokesperson for the club, argued that hiring £25-an-hour security would be 'prohibitively expensive'. She argued the conditions were 'disproportionate' and that the incident was a 'very unfortunate freak incident
