Nottingham Forest's City Ground is set to host an England international friendly against Senegal this summer, paving the way for redevelopment plans to begin at the end of the next season.

Redevelopment work on Nottingham Forest 's City Ground could commence at the end of the next season, following the stadium's hosting of an England international fixture, according to a recent report. The Reds initially unveiled their ambitious plans to upgrade their stadium back in 2019. Despite encountering various obstacles and challenges, the multi-million pound project remains uninitiated, and last year, the club's future at the ground was subject to uncertainty.

A dispute with Nottingham City Council, the land owners, regarding rent and a new lease prompted Forest to consider relocating elsewhere. However, after negotiations between the two parties resumed, senior councillors agreed to sell the freehold to the club. In December, Councillor Neghat Khan expressed confidence that the sale would be finalized by the end of the financial year, in April. Now, a potential commencement date for the redevelopment has emerged. The Athletic reports that the project has been tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2026. This development coincides with news that the City Ground is in line to host a senior England international fixture. Sources indicate that Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions are set to face Senegal this summer in a friendly match at the season's end. Should everything proceed as planned, the match will take place on June 10th. The Football Association is reportedly drawn to Nottingham's central location and its convenient transport links to both the north and south of England. This will mark the first time the City Ground has hosted an England international since staging a friendly against Wales in 1941. The two nations also clashed in an official international at the stadium in 1909. Forest attacker Morgan Gibbs-White will undoubtedly hope for the opportunity to represent his country on his home turf. The 25-year-old has garnered two caps after making his debut under interim England boss Lee Carsley last year.Nottingham Forest's attacking midfielders, Elliot Anderson and Callum Hudson-Odoi, are also vying for senior England call-ups. Anderson has represented the Under-21s, while Hudson-Odoi has previously donned the Three Lions jersey. Midfielder Ryan Yates recently expressed that he hasn't relinquished his dream of playing for England. With the City Ground redevelopment tentatively scheduled for the summer of 2026, The Athletic states that this allows the FA to plan for Forest to host England this summer. England's international matches are taking place outside of Wembley Stadium as it prepares for a series of summer concerts, including performances by Oasis, Coldplay, and Dua Lipa.
