The Austin mayor addressed the public on Monday about the current state of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas energy grid as temperatures are expected to reach triple digits this week. “Raise your thermostat a couple of degrees. Turn on fans only in the room you're in but use those fans to help things make it cooler in that room,” Watson advised.“It's not until the last level, Energy Emergency Alert 3, that ERCOT mandates controlled outages,” added Watson.
Riley says incentives are currently offered for people who opt into the city’s thermostat program to help conserve energy.
