City of Dallas maps the city to identify the hottest spots

Dallas is recruiting more than 100 volunteers to drive the streets and find the hottest places in the city.

The Bishop Arts District, Medical District and West Dallas are some of the neighborhoods that were 10 degrees hotter than other parts of the city, according to last year’s mapping efforts.Volunteer Noor Hussien, 15, demonstrates how the CAPA Strategies Heat Watch Sensor works after finishing the route with family, where they recorded heat temperature throughout the city as part of the city’s heat island spots study, at Dallas Executive Airport in Dallas on Saturday, Aug. 10, 2024.

Volunteers drove 250 square miles at three different times to record the temperature and humidity levels on Saturday. “Going through Dallas, there are definitely differences in neighborhoods between tree canopy and green spaces,” Lowe said. “I think it’s important that it doesn’t matter what neighborhood you live in. Everybody should have access to an environment that’s comfortable to live in and have access to nature.”
