If you’re driving down U.S. Highway 98 today, you might pass by Daphne’s newest historical marker.

The plaque honors the African Americans and white settlers of Daphne, with burials dating back to 1860 and earlier. Some of those individuals are buried at Yancey Crane Cemetery, owned by Sandy Sansing Ford Lincoln. In 2023, the dealership erected a monument to recognize both the known and unknown individuals resting here.Mayor Robin LeJeune credits local historian Alfred Guarisco as one of the key figures in reviving the property.Guarisco, a Daphne native, has no loved ones buried at the site.
