One by one around a dozen speakers spoke to Councilman Penn and Public Safety Director Rob Lasky about things they feel could turn things around.
) -In January the city held its first peace forum where community leaders talked about ideas that District 1 Councilman Cory Penn said helped the city come up with a violence prevention plan. This afternoon the city held a second forum to hear from residents in the community.
“I just wanted to say there should be more after school activities in the area where youth violence is so kids will have their mind more on the activity instead of the violence,” said David Flores.Councilman Penn says an idea from Nina Dortch was one of the ones that stood out to him the most. Dortch called on local businesses and organizations to have a bigger role in showing children a path for their future.
“We have to get our businesses more involved in the day-to-day operations and things taking place here in the city of Mobile and investing in the community and I believe they want to do it, but we have to have the plan in place to support that initiative,” said Councilman Penn.
