The National Weather Service is expecting the hottest temperatures of the year so far to settle over the Northeast and Midwest this week. As the Midwest and Northwest could be facing record breaking heat Mobile is feeling it too. The city is taking action to beat it.
“I brought my granddaughter out here to play and the seats are really hot from the sun, so she was not able to get the full effect of the playground because the seats are way too hot. It was pretty disappointing because we did not get to stay as long as we would like to,” said Gripper. Baumhauer-Randle Park is in Mobile City Councilman C.J. Small's district. He says splash pads are important for communities especially as kids are out of school for summer.
City of Mobile Director of Parks and Recreation Kim Carmody says splash pads are a fantastic way to cool off and it is not just open to kids.
