A signed statement also calling for hostages to be freed unharmed has been released
A statement signed by the leaders of Greater Manchester's 10 local authorities, the mayor of Greater Manchester, Andy Burnham, and deputy mayor, Kate Green, was released today. Collectively, they have joined the international calls for a ceasefire amid the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza.

"Given the humanitarian disaster unfolding in Gaza, the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and the ten Leaders of Greater Manchester join the growing international calls for a ceasefire by all sides and for the hostages to be released unharmed." Israel, meanwhile, says it expects to launch a long and difficult ground offensive into Gaza soon to destroy Hamas.
