Michelle Mann CLAYHATCHEE –Celebrating 175 years of worship and service to the community was the focus of those attending the Providence Baptist Church Homecoming in the Dale County town of Clayhatchee on the last Sunday of April.
Following the morning service and a covered dish lunch in the fellowship hall, the congregation was joined by visitors from other local churches in the sanctuary for an afternoon program, which began with music from the children. A highlight of the program was a video telling the church’s history with pictures, narration, and interviews with local members. It was narrated by Nick Brooks and produced by Joe Abercrombie.
Over the years, Providence members helped establish nine more local churches, Beam said, and these were recognized during the program. Rev. Jim Peters from Daleville Baptist Church read scripture and Deacon Clifford Warren from Shiloh Baptist Church led prayer.
