A Cleveland Heights man was sentenced to more than five years in prison for helping rob a mail carrier at gunpoint.CLEVELAND, Ohio — A federal judge on Tuesday said a Cleveland Heights man got “the break of the century” when he sentenced the 20-year-old to more than five years in prison for robbing a mail carrier in South Euclid and using stolen keys to blue mail boxes to pilfer checks.to five years and four months in prison and three years of post-prison supervision.

Sims pleaded guilty to robbery of U.S. Postal Service property, using a gun during a violent crime, stealing U.S. mail keys, mail theft and possessing stolen mail.“I surrounded myself with horrible people who didn’t want the best for me,” Sims said of his former friends. Sims is the first of three people to be sentenced in the Nov. 7, 2023, robbery. Co-defendants Michael Williams, 19, of University Heights and Teontaey Thomas, 20, of Cleveland both pleaded guilty in the case.
