Some areas in Northeast Ohio could see heat indexes over 100 degrees.
The city of Cleveland announced Monday that several recreation centers will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will have areas for people to cool off. Normally schedule recreation programs will continue. A list of cooling centers is below.
The National Weather Service has issued heat advisories for Tuesday for several Ohio counties. As of Monday night, only Cleveland-area county included in the advisory is Lorain County. The advisory areas could see heat indexes around 103 degrees and the NWS warns the extreme temperatures and high humidity could cause heat illnesses., Avon Lake Schools announced that its elementary and middle schools will be closed on Tuesday. Classes will be held at the high school.
An air quality alert has been issued for Cuyahoga, Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit counties and is in effect until late Tuesday night. The advisory warns that air quality will be unsafe for sensitive groups such as older residents, young children and people with breathing issues.
Highs again are expected in the 90s on Wednesday before falling back into the mid-80s on Thursday. Temperatures again could reach the 90s on Friday, but cooler conditions should arrive during the weekend, forecasts show.Zelma George Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center:16300 Lakeshore Blvd.
