A climate activism group vandalized a 5,000-year-old landmark in the United Kingdom to protest against fossil fuels on Wednesday.

Just Stop Oil protesters sit after spraying an orange substance on Stonehenge, in Salisbury, England, Wednesday June 19, 2024.

Video of the protest captured activists spraying the giant rocks in Salisbury, Wiltshire, and several people were also seen running up to the activists to stop them. The crowd watching the vandalizing yelled for them to stop. Two climate protesters were arrested by the Wiltshire Police on suspicion of damaging the prehistoric stone circle.🔥 2 people took action the day before Summer Solstice, demanding the incoming government sign up to a legally binding treaty to phase out fossil fuels by 2030.

“The UK’s government in waiting has committed to enacting Just Stop Oil’s original demand of ‘no new oil and gas,’” a group spokesperson added. “However, we all know this is not enough. Continuing to burn coal, oil and gas will result in the death of millions. We have to come together to defend humanity or we risk everything. That’s why Just Stop Oil is demanding that our next government sign up to a legally binding treaty to phase out fossil fuels by 2030.
