Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and the looming threat of flooding. What does the future hold for Lincolnshire?
Lincolnshire is at risk of worse flooding, intensified heatwaves and sea level rises due to climate change, a professor has warned.
Professor Hanna said: “The main medium-term threat to Lincolnshire of sustained human-induced climate change is more severe, widespread and impactful flooding, with a quite plausible 0.5 to 1 metre or possibly more of global sea-level rise within the lifetimes of many of my students. “However, we can also expect more heatwaves and droughts, as last summer, with Lincolnshire now having the dubious distinction of holding the UK’s highest official temperature record.”
Professor Hanna warns that emissions of greenhouse gases leaves the United Kingdom at risk of failing in its targets to prevent this temperature rise.
