Molly Kirk was found unresponsive in her bedroom at the Farndon Unit in Newark, after having no interaction with the members of staff for 14 hours
A healthcare assistant who was working at a Nottinghamshire mental health clinic where a young woman was found unresponsive says more should have been done to ensure her safety. Molly-Star Kirk was 20 when she died while an inpatient at the Farndon Unit in Newark on May 29, 2022.
During the 10-day inquest into Molly's death, the court heard how the young woman had been in bed for 14 hours with no interaction with staff for medication or food before she was found unresponsive. Ms Irvine-Brentnall told the hearing held at Nottingham Council House on Tuesday, April 23, that Molly did not wake up at around 9am on the day she died to take her prescribed medication and no further attempts to rouse her were made.
Ms Irvine-Brentnall told Coroner Bower that the checks were "not enough" and longer observations were required to ensure the safety of patients. When asked how confident she felt about whether Molly was alive when she tried to wake her up, Ms Irvine-Brentnall said she did not know and burst into tears.
