William Wroe Golf Course, which shut seven years ago, will be transformed into William Wroe Meadows, offering residents a chance to connect with nature. The Trafford council acquired the site in 2018 and secured its protection through Fields in Trust status. The Environmental Partnership, funded by Natural England, has already started restoration work as part of their 'Lost Wetlands' programme. The council plans a phased approach to improve accessibility, infrastructure, and flood management.

A municipal golf course in Flixton which closed seven years ago is set to become a green enclave. Following consultation with the Flixton Green for All group, what was the William Wroe Golf course will be known as William Wroe Meadows.

A year ago, The Environmental Partnership, funded by Natural England has carried out work at Flixton as part of their ‘Lost Wetlands’ programme, co-ordinated by City of Trees. A report to the council’s executive said that since the closure of the golf course, a basic maintenance regime as been carried out, including mowing access routes. The council has an annual base budget of £16,000 to fund ‘reactive maintenance’ of the site.
