Nottingham City Transport has warned commuters of extended wait times on many routes this weekend
Major roadworks on a busy A52 roundabout leading to the Queen's Medical Centre are causing disruption this weekend. The key roundabout has been closed from Friday, February 7 to 6am on Monday, February 10, to allow workers to install a replacement beam in its damaged bridge.
The damage occurred in 2018 after a beam was struck by a lorry carrying an excavator. In a post to X on Saturday, February 8, bus operator Nottingham City Transport warned passengers that significant delays were building as a result of the closure. A spokesperson said: "There are severe delays and extended wait times on Orange 34, 35, 36 and Grey 54 due to the ongoing diversions because of the closure of the A52 between Priory and QMC." A contingency date of next weekend has been set for the installation of a new bridge beam if it can not be completed this weekend.
It comes after closures on the A6514 Middleton Boulevard underneath the QMC roundabout last weekend. Traffic was diverted up and over the roundabout using the slip roads. National Highways last closed the Queen’s Medical Centre roundabout for bridge repairs on the weekend of January 25 and 26. National Highways has announced a series of diversions to help combat a build-up of traffic congestion near the busy route and requested drivers allow for added time to their journeys.
