About the study In the present study, the researchers examined the efficacy of an MVA vector vaccine expressing the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein , which, in previous studies by the same team of researchers using mice, hamster, and rhesus macaque models, had induced spike protein specific long-term humoral and memory T cell responses and protected against morbidity, pathology, mortality, and cytokine storm.
Additionally, a second study involving MVA-CoV2-S vaccinated mice that survived the SARS-CoV-2 infection was conducted to determine the vaccine's efficacy in protecting against SARS-CoV-2 reinfection. The mice were euthanized six days after the second SARS-CoV-2 challenge, and the brains were extracted for pathology observations.
