Sean Byrne from Warrenpoint has been given a Human Endeavour Civic Award by his local council
A Co Down man has been celebrated by his local council for an act that could save up to 600 lives. Sean Byrne from Warrenpoint has donated blood platelets over 200 times to Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service.
Now Mr Byrne's incredible record of giving blood has been marked by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council with a Human Endeavour Civic Award "recognising his passion and commitment to saving lives by reaching this incredible milestone".Chairperson, councillor Pete Byrne, said at the awards ceremony: "Each year we look forward to honouring the amazing people who work towards improving their communities and the lives of others across Newry, Mourne and Down.
Sean Byrne was awarded a Human Endeavour Civic Award for his remarkable achievement of making his 200th platelet donation to the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service. "The effort to travel such a distance from Newry to Belfast by train every month to save lives is a testament to his selflessness and is wholly commendable."
