Deborah Fitzsimons, inspired by her father's musical legacy, is hosting a concert featuring 14 local bands to raise funds for the Macmillan Cancer Unit.
A musician from Co Down is continuing her father's musical legacy with a special concert in his memory. Deborah Fitzsimons, who has been performing in venues across Northern Ireland and Belfast since she was 17, is deeply inspired by her late father, Damien Fitzsimons. Damien played in well-known local bands, Purple Haze and Red Biddy, and Deborah frequently shared the stage with him. Now, determined to keep his musical spirit alive, she is organizing a tribute event.
On Saturday, February 8th, Deborah will host 'If the Music Fitz,' a live music event at Denvir's Coaching Inn in Downpatrick. The evening will feature performances from 14 local bands, including musicians who played alongside Damien over the years. Deborah describes her music as a blend of pop, country, and blues, drawing inspiration from artists like Amy Winehouse, Frank Ocean, Zach Bryan, Chris Stapleton, and Luke Bryan. She emphasizes the storytelling aspect of their music, saying it fuels her creative process. Deborah released her debut singles last year, 'The Gem' and 'Final Ending.' 'The Gem' was a tribute to her father, their shared nickname. 'Final Ending' explores bittersweet moments in life. Released in October, it has already garnered 10,000 streams. Looking ahead, Deborah hopes to expand her musical career further in 2025. She's planning to release a new single followed by an EP later in the year and dreams of performing on bigger stages and at festivals. All proceeds from 'If the Music Fitz' will benefit the Macmillan Cancer Unit at the Ulster Hospital.
