“It will be a lovely way to finish out my career at the age that I am, I’ve worked with Hastings for 28 years.”
It’s a long way from Killyclogher, Co Tyrone to the top of the biggest hotel chain in Northern Ireland.
While the majority of the West Tyrone accent has been eroded over the years, there is still enough of it left for those across the county to claim him. “We all worked for my father who was a builder back in his day and built most of Omagh and a lot of Killyclogher as well. “I liked the money and I loved to work, I come from a family with a great work ethic. I loved the work because it wasn’t on a building site and I didn’t have to deal with machinery like all my brothers.
He ended up taking a job at an American themed restaurant in the city before returning to work for his father. Fast forward to 2022, and James said it was an ‘amazing honour’ to have been asked by the Hastings family to take up the top job across the group.
