Coastguard volunteers were left shocked after being attacked by a man they were helping after he ended up in the water off the Co Down coast. In a post on their Facebook page, the Newcastle Coastguard said the young man they were sent to assist was highly aggressive, attempting to assault the Coastguard s and police officers, refusing their appeals to calm down and verbally abusing everyone who came near him.

He was arrested by the police and taken away in handcuffs. Our emergency service colleagues in the PSNI, Ambulance Service and Fire and Rescue Service report this type of behaviour is not unusual for them, but for those of us in the voluntary sector it came as a shoc
