Michelle Mann “Child abuse and neglect are a serious problem affecting every segment of our community and finding solutions requires input and action from everyone,” said Coffee County Commission Chairman Dean Smith as he joined Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center Executive Director Kaley Green in recognizing April as Child Abuse Prevention Month during at commission meeting in New Brockton Monday.
“Prevention remains the best defense for our children and families,” said Smith. “It is in our best interest to work together as a community to increase awareness about child abuse and promote the social and emotional well-being of children and families in a safe, stable and nurturing environment.” “All of our services are free, so the money that we get from not only our county commissioners and other funders, helps to ensure that those services stay free,” Green said.
Pike Regional Child Advocacy Center trains professionals and community members on preventing, recognizing, responding to, and reporting child abuse. “We also provide child abuse education and prevention programs to students from preschool to high school,” said Green. “The CAC provides mandated reporter training to school personnel and faith community members. Our Outreach team regularly participates in community events, helping to spread the mission of the CAC to all of those we serve.
